DMEM/ HAM’s F12 Medium is a 1:1 mixture of a nutrient enriched HAM’s F-12 Medium and a vitamin enriched DMEM Medium. DMEM/F12 in combination with hormones, growth factors and additional nutrients supports the growth of most cell lines without the need of supplementation with serum . In addition, it is a basic medium for producing many serum free media. HEPES buffer is added to certain formulations as compensation for the loss of buffering capacity due to the absence of serum.
