From September, a newly developed rapid test called Legionella Legipid Bioalarm ® Legionella kit is available on the Dutch market.

The Legionella rapid test is specific for the detection of Legionella pneumophila. Legipid ® detects all serogroups of this species and detects only living bacteria. The test can be performed on site if necessary and the result is known in 50 minutes. The detection limit is Legipid ® 93 cfu.
There is no specific provision for test equipment required and no intensive training of the user. Legipid ® is ENAC accredited in Spain and AOAC certification is requested and will end this year. The Legipid ® is currently used in other countries as an effective alternative in the management of cooling water systems, replacing the PCR and Immuno-sensing methods.
