Lyophilization, also known as freeze- drying, is a way of drying a product that minimizes damage to its internal structure. It removes sufficient water to provide the longevity of products while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the various biologics and organic molecules to obtain their required activity upon rehydration. Lyophilization is regularly used to preserve vaccins, pharmaceuticals, and other proteins.
